Since 2009, “Give Me History!” has served over 35,000 elementary and middle schools students and teachers in Richmond City and Henrico County public schools by providing a free educational program at historic St. John’s Church. “Give Me History!” provides Standards of Learning-based history lessons that give economically disadvantaged children in Title I schools an educational boost. Title I is a federal designation given to schools that have a high concentration of economically disadvantaged students who are at risk of failing academically.
“Give Me History!” provides an educational experience at no cost to schools, students, teachers or parents. The program includes the following:
- Free guided tours by costumed interpreters of Historic St. John’s Church
- Free reenactments by professional actors in period costumes of the Second Virginia Convention
- Free educational materials and lesson plans available for download prior to each field trip
- Free transportation from schools to and from Historic St. John’s Church – coverage up to 60 mile round trip and 3 hours drive time maximum. For more information about coverage, please contact Amy Swartz at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at (804) 643-0555.
Due to valuable feedback from teachers, we offer the middle school and elementary field trips beginning in the winter when Revolutionary War curriculum is being taught. We offer a sign up genius so that educators can choose the date which is most convenient for their schedule.
