Public Reenactments

of the Second Virginia Convention, March 23, 1775

Go Back in Time.

Since 1976, St. John’s Church Foundation has presented historical reenactments of the Second Virginia Convention of March 1775 at its original location. Professional actors portray nine delegates — including Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington — who engage in the arguments of the Second Virginia Convention, leading to Patrick Henry’s immortal words "Give me liberty or give me death!"

Public Reenactments are a ticketed event that all may attend. (We call them ‘public reenactments’ because we do hundreds of ‘private reenactments’ each year for schools, businesses and any number of civic or other paying groups.) Starting Memorial Day weekend, there is a public reenactment EVERY SUNDAY at 1:30 PM all the way through Labor Day. There are public reenactments on other special days throughout the year: in February on or near Presidents Day, in March for our Anniversary (March 23, 1775), in April for Patriots Day (on or near April 19, the day the first shots of the Revolution were fired in 1775), and in November on or near Veterans Day. Of course, one of our most attended reenactments is Independence Day on July 4.

If you plan to be in Richmond this year, make sure to take advantage of this spectacular event, a Richmond tradition for almost 50 years.
